My name is Annie and I’m in Business Operations at OneSchema. Outside of work, I love cooking, making tiktoks, going to new restaurants in SF, and playing on my Nintendo Switch!
What did you do prior to OneSchema?
Before joining OneSchema, I worked in Portfolio Management and Operations at Universal McCann, a global marketing agency. During my time at UM, I had the opportunity to work with incredible companies like Twitch, Reddit, and Sony Electronics.
I’m also passionate about cooking and one day decided to share my cooking videos on TikTok and Instagram. Within six months, I gained 25K followers and continue to enjoy posting the dishes I create.
Why did you decide to join an early stage startup?
My younger sister joined an early-stage startup and, working from home with her, I had the chance to listen in and see what kind of work she was doing. I quickly realized how exciting it was to work in an environment where everything moved quickly and no two days felt the same.
Having worked for a larger corporation previously, I found it difficult to connect with my coworkers (my previous job was entirely remote). I mostly had my head down, meeting deadlines as they came. But deep down, I knew I was capable of making a more meaningful impact in my career, and I felt that joining an early-stage startup would be the right way to fulfill that need.
I’ve always believed that it’s more rewarding to be part of a small, tight-knit community with a team driven to help build a successful company and product. Not only is everyone at OneSchema incredibly talented, but they are also the kindest, most supportive individuals I’ve had the pleasure of working with.
Tell us about your role at OneSchema
I am part of the Operations team, but I also support finance operations, planning, employee experience, office management, and recruiting. I ensure that everyone is happy here at OneSchema and help organize cool events where we can connect with our coworkers outside of work.
What’s your favorite part about working in-person?
I love catching up with my coworkers and hearing about their lives and hobbies outside of work. Personally, I feel I connect better with people in person rather than only over Zoom.
Coming from an entirely remote position previously, I became increasingly frustrated with working and living in my room every day. I also started to develop some social anxiety, as I often went days without seeing anyone other than my sister/roommate. When I was looking for my next role, I made a hybrid schedule a top priority, as it would allow me to connect with my coworkers and build meaningful relationships. I’m incredibly grateful for the decision I made, as I’ve never felt more fulfilled in a role and get the ability to make meaningful connections with my coworkers.
